Arthur's obituary

Arthur “Artie” Stevens

July 6, 1940 – March 4, 2025

Arthur “Artie” Stevens passed away peacefully on March 4, 2025 at the age of 84. Artie was a proud Marine, a husband and  father and a loving devoted grandfather. He lived in Manchester, NJ, and was originally from the Landing section of Roxbury.

Artie is survived by his wife, Anna (née Caruso). Artie leaves behind his three sons—Scott, who lives in Stanhope, David in North Carolina, and Jeffrey in Long Branch, NJ. He also leaves his daughter, Leanne Schellhammer, who lives in Stanhope, and his step-son, Richard Scheuer, who lives in Colorado.

He was a proud “Poppy” to a massive family of 19 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. His family meant everything to him. Artie, later on in his life, found great joy in spending time with his grandchildren.

Artie will also always be remembered by his brother, Jack Stevens, from Mt. Arlington, NJ, and his sister Patty King from Dunellen, NJ. He also has many nephews and nieces who loved him.

He was predeceased by his parents, Russell and Pearl (Sutton) Stevens. He also joins his brothers Russell, Bob, Donald, Dick, and Frank, and his sister Eva Talmidge.

Throughout his life, Artie was a remarkable individual who touched the hearts of everyone he met. His big, happy smile was contagious, and he had a gift for making people laugh, no matter the situation. His kindness and humor made everyone feel special, and his loving nature made him a key part of his family and friends' lives.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 31 at 2:00 PM at the American Legion Post 278, 119 US Highway 183, Stanhope, NJ 07874. Please join us in remembering a good man, a loyal Marine, and someone we will never forget.
