Art's obituary
Arthur William “Art” Nash Jr.
September 16, 1946 – April 2, 2025
Arthur William Nash Jr., known fondly as Art, passed away peacefully on April 2, 2025, in Fresno, California. He was 78 years old.
Born on September 16, 1946, in Mount Holly, New Jersey, Art was the son of Arthur and Emily Nash. As the child of a career Air Force father, Art’s early years were filled with adventure and travel, attending school in places as far-flung as Bermuda, Japan, Alaska, Northern California, and Chicago.
Following in his family’s tradition of service, Art joined the U.S. Navy after high school. He served with honor, completing three cruises and proudly serving during the Vietnam War.
Art was a man of quiet strength, deep kindness, and many talents. A true craftsman, he found joy in leatherworking, jewelry making, and was a skilled knife smith. A lifelong rockhound and gold prospector, he shared his passion with local schoolchildren, offering demonstrations before field trips to Columbia State Historic Park. Art’s love of the outdoors took him camping and traveling throughout his life. A motorcycle enthusiast, he found freedom and creativity in both building and riding bikes.
Art was soft-spoken and good-natured—never loud, but always present. To know him was to count yourself lucky. He was a good man, and an even better friend.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Emily Nash, and twin sister, Sandra. He is survived by his brother, Martin Nash of New Jersey, and many dear friends who will miss his steady presence and generous spirit.
A private memorial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please honor Art’s memory by taking a quiet moment outdoors, tinkering in your workshop, or lending a kind hand to a friend in need—just as he would have done.
