It will be immediately followed by a social gathering with light snacks and beverages at the Community Center.

Art was the renaissance person - a caring therapist, creative artist, a bee keeper (and courageous bee rescuer), a Methodist Minister, and VA mental health care provider, which he often remarked was very rewarding work. Art was bilingual, and a proud dual citizen of Asturias, Spain where he was inspired to learn to play the gaita (bagpipe). He also played guitar and was a dynamite handy man, and whenever anything went awry, he’d say, “I have a tool for that.” And he did! Interestingly, he was also a wanna be popcorn farmer. He embraced what was unique, and the quirkier side of life. Though an “old soul,” he was youthful in heart, mind, and body. Art was inquisitive, always ready to try something new, to experiment, and to find a restaurant serving exotic food. He loved to dance to all sorts of tunes in the kitchen, and his dance skills were impressive. He recently enhanced his athletic abilities by playing pickleball and soccer, and enjoyed both immensely. Nature, was supremely important to Art; hiking, mushroom hunting, plant and bird identification, star-gazing and gardening were favorite pastimes.

With all the varied hats Art wore throughout his life, he was typically upbeat, kind, and engaged. His overall energy and sensitive nature was such that he set you at ease. He had an innate understanding of the human heart and sought to find common ground, he saw most everyone as a potential friend.

One of the values Art often expressed was the importance of kindness, this was his goal in life, to be kind to others and all aspects of our planet. He was humble and often unaware of the positive impact he had on others. He loved his family and friends and would do whatever he could to help out. Even after life, Art continues to enhance the lives of others as an organ and tissue donor.

Art’s family would like to express their gratitude for the exceptional compassion and care given to Art at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. Under the most challenging of circumstances, angels abide, and the nurses, doctors, and numerous caring people attending to him were blessings throughout each day and night.
