Arthur's obituary
Arthur Ernst Grundmann
1944 – 2025
Arthur Ernst Grundmann, age 80, passed away peacefully in his own home on September 20, 2025. Born in Hawaii and a longtime resident of Leonardo, New Jersey, Art lived a full and humble life marked by hard work, humor, and an appreciation for the simple things.
Art was a proud husband, father, and friend. He is survived by his beloved wife, Janis Grundmann, and his children Lori Girard, Kendra Grundmann-Callies, William Grundmann, and Russell Grundmann, along with five grandchildren, Kaitlin, Sarah, Gillian, Ashlynn, and Wesley, who will forever cherish the laughter, lessons, and love he brought into their lives. He was the steady hand and quiet strength of his family — a man who never needed much but gave so much of himself to those around him.
Throughout his life, Art was known as a man who could fix anything. As a handyman by trade, he took great pride in his work, whether he was repairing a neighbor’s leaky faucet or building something from scratch in his garage. His talent for woodworking was more than a skill but a passion.
Outside of work, Art found community and friendship at the American Legion, where he enjoyed the camaraderie and simple pleasures of good company. He also appreciated the quiet moments — watching his favorite TV shows, tinkering with home projects, or simply relaxing at home. Art didn’t need the spotlight; he was content with a calm life surrounded by his family.
Those who knew Art will remember he is a man of few words, his easygoing nature, and his ability to bring comfort just by being himself. He had a knack for being a good listener and cracking the occasional smile while delivering a witty one liner, all while enjoying the simple things in everyday life — qualities that made him truly special.
Family and friends are invited to join in celebrating Art’s life on November 16th, from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM at American Legion post 338. In true Art fashion, the gathering will be relaxed, full of good stories, good food, and a few laughs — just the way he would have wanted it.
Art’s legacy lives on in the family he loved, the friendships he built, and the countless small acts of kindness he shared along the way. Though he will be deeply missed, his warmth, humor, and steady spirit will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
“He built more than things — he built a family, a home, and a lifetime of love that will stand strong forever.”
