Arthur's obituary
Arthur (Art or Dolan) was a life-long Republican, Firefighter, hunter, sports enthusiast, coin collector and traveler. His life journey began in the small town of Polk, Nebraska on October 14, 1934, soon followed by a childhood spent in Scottsbluff, Nebraska during a time when “free-range” upbringing was the norm and not the exception. There was an article plus photo in the local Scottsbluff 1940's newspaper describing a young boy found riding down the middle of Main Street on his tricycle... it was young 5 year old Art Eckdahl. This is a great parallel story to how he lived his life. As the Frank Sinatra song goes; he lived his life his way.
A small sample of Art's life achievements can be found in the many Awards, Accommodations and Recognitions of Service plaques that lined his walls. Art was a career Public Servant, a firefighter, trainer and mentor for close to 50 years in Colorado and California. He was a volunteer Fort Collins Youth Baseball Commissioner and some who still live in Fort Collins remember him coaching their football, basketball or baseball teams. Art was also a long-standing, well respected, District Coordinator for the annual Jerry Lewis Telethon while in Colorado. Surprisingly, his life experiences included amateur boxing and piloting small airplanes.
He ultimately retired in the quiet town of Mesquite, NV to enjoy the nice weather and be close to sports betting (Go Broncos!). The day before his death was spent at his favorite stomping ground, Virgin River Casino, eating out and betting/watching sports. The week before his passing, he celebrated his 83rd birthday in much the same way.
Art's quick wit and irreverent humor will be sorely missed. Please take a moment to post any photos and share your memories of Arthur Dolan Eckdahl. Thank you!
