Arthur's obituary

Arthur “Richard” Berry, Jr.

1951-2023

Arthur “Richard” Berry, Jr., 72, of Holt, Missouri, passed away Friday, April 28, 2023. Born July 19, 1951 in Kansas City, Missouri of the late Arthur R. Berry, Sr. and Velma (Leonard) Berry.

Richard was blessed with the family he had, blended and otherwise. His loving wife, Paula Berry; Sister Pam Haynes (Morris, deceased); Children Michael Lee Berry (Karen, deceased), Bill Brier (Michelle); Stephanie Brier, deceased (Don Sight), Cathy (Brier) Darr; Grandchildren Malinda Berry, Michael Berry, Sean Brier, Krystal Brier, Adam Brier, Logan Sight, Dylan Darr, Derek Darr, Courtney Olvera, Zach Ault; Niece Malinda Roberson and Great Nephew Tyler Roberson.

He was grateful for the many friendships, neighbors, and partners in crime through his many decades of living his best life. Most especially, for his best “Treasure” and person he loved more than himself, his wife Paula.

Richard’s Grandfather started Berry Plumbing Company, his father continued the legacy, and Richard was taken on jobs as young as 11, because he was too ornery to be home alone. Richard didn’t want to be a plumber, so he became a Parkville Police Officer. When that didn’t work out, Richard continued the family business as a plumber for 40 years.

The last 14 years of Richard’s life, he was the face of Grumpy’s Gunsmithing, where he enjoyed working with and repairing guns. He also loved to work in his shop on motorcycles, vehicles, and anything that would challenge his mind.

In his younger days, Richard played guitar and bass in several bands, enjoyed skiing and scuba diving, and loved to ride Harley Davidson Motorcycles.

Visitation will be held Thursday, May 4, 2023, from 4:30-6:30 with Service and Celebration of Life immediately following, at the First Baptist Church of Northern Heights, 6311 NW Waukomis Drive in Kansas City, Missouri. For those who would like to make a donation in Richard’s honor, please do so to the American Cancer Society or KC Hospice House @kchospice.org/donation.
