October 27th started just as any Sunday would, but I had no idea the heartache that was about to come later that evening. I lost the love of my life, having been married to Bruce for 32 & 1/2 years. His passing was so very unexpected. The comfort I take, however, is knowing where he is now. He always told me when it was his time to go home to be with the Lord just to throw a big party.
Bruce loved to read about, and talk about the American Civil War. Every time we would watch the movie, “Gettysburg," he would hope that the outcome was going to be different, but it never was!
Bruce was an avid sports enthusiast. He would watch, officiate, do radio broadcasting, podcasting for football basketball , baseball , soccer , volleyball, auto racing, etc. If it was sports related, he was into it! Years ago, when he had surgery done on his knee, being unable to work, he watched curling during the Olympics. I never could understand the point of Curling, but he said that when there wasn't much else to watch, he even started to like it.
Bruce no doubt loved his music! As we began to date, while we were stationed at Mayport Naval Air Station, Florida, it soon became evident that our musical tastes were very different! My musical training was classical. Bruce's music was classic, but it was Classic Rock and Christian Rock. After going on a date to a Petra concert, to say that I was out of my comfort zone was an understatement. Bruce was sure that that was going to be our final date. After our many years together, Bruce would comment that I have come a long way!
No matter what any of our differences may have been in our years together, there was never a question of his unwavering love for me and mine for him. I will miss “The Dancing Bear” deeply, but I look forward to one day being reunited with Bruce in Heaven.
