Libby and I had just moved to Denver from Arizona the week before. On Saturday we ran our chores and ended up in Buckingham shopping center in Aurora. Standing outside the "Pump and Derrick" bar Libby wanted a Bloody Mary and a newspaper to look for a job. We sat at the bar a couple spots away from two women. Two young kids were having lunch at a table and when finished they gave the check to one of the women. She looked at the check then pushed it across the counter to me and said "this must be yours". We began talking and before long were "old friends" of Arlene. She had an "important" trip to Las Vegas that week and asked Libby to bowl in her league as a substitute, which she did. That's how we met her our first new friend in Denver. She truly never met a stranger.
A funny story about Arlene and Dean was on a trip to the Outer Banks one year with Kenny and Vicky DeVivi. Dean and Arlene's fussing over driving was legendary. At a truck stop Dean walked up to me and said "I'll give you $200 to trade places with Arlene. I turned around and Arlene said "I'll give you $200 to trade places with me and you ride with Dean." I didn't take them up but I heard later it had been an offer open to anyone in the group.
We will miss Arlene and treasure the memories we shared with a True Friend.

Dear Zick family,we will be forever sad to lose Arlene. She was such a good friend and a very giving and sharing person. Our lives were certainly enriched by knowing her and your wonderful family.

Arlene was my favorite Aunt, so easy going and fun. A few times we got together for a game of golf. Dean told Pat this story: Arlene had a horse that was costing a fortune in Vet bills and food. The neighbor came over one day to talk to Dean about the horse. Dean said "I'll give you a $1,000 in cash if you tell Arlene you want to buy that horse" Two days later, Arlene came into the house and threw $1,000 on the desk and said to Dean, "I sold the horse!." And to this day, we don't know if she ever found out the truth.
