Arlen's obituary
ARLEN RICHARD BLUM
Arlen Richard "Dick" Blum, of San Jose, CA, originally from Chicago, IL., passed away April 3, 2022. Dick was a family man, a man of great faith and compassion. He left behind his wife, Carolyn, of sixty nine years, whom he dearly loved, and his six beloved children; David, Janet, Kathy, Pat, Lisa and Donna.
He was a proud grandfather of twenty grandchildren and many more great grandchildren, with several great-great grandchildren, some of whom were still on the way. He also had many nieces and nephews who adored him. He never hesitated to brag about how big his family was and how happy he was that he was the start of it all.
Dick was a sailor during the Korean War, stationed in Japan, where he worked on airplanes. His skills as a mechanic carried over into his civilian life where he taught all of his children how to work on cars and be especially good at parallel parking.
After his armed services, Dick was in the grocery business for more than thirty years with Safeway, all over the bay area. He enjoyed sailing, woodworking, taking care of his home of sixty plus years and later on his great passion, computers.
After retirement, Dick taught computer classes at the Willow Glen Senior Center, helping people learn the internet, cell phones, I pads and how to set up home computers. He enjoyed helping others and gave selflessly of his time to anyone he met. He always had time for friends or family who made a call to him about computer problems or he stopped by to fix it for them.
Dick will be greatly missed for his gentle demeanor, kind soft spoken way, and love of God. He was loved by family, neighbors and friends.
The family has requested no flowers. There was no funeral, per Dicks wishes.
