Arfan's obituary

Arfan Sheikh Shayer (29), of Philadelphia, PA, passed away unexpectedly at his home on October 08, 2025. Our family is devastated and shocked by this loss. Arfan was born on August 05, 1996 in Beaumont, TX to parents Hassan and Atiya Shayer.

Born and raised in Beaumont, Arfan brought joy and laughter to those around him. In 2005, our family made the decision to move to Houston, TX, where he also had a tight knit group of friends and family. While keeping our home in Houston, we made a tough decision to also move to Bangladesh to be closer to Arfan's maternal grandparents.

Arfan attended the American International School of Dhaka (AISD) starting in 2005 in which he had a successful academic career, broke discus records, and was senior year class president. In 2014 he successfully graduated from AISD with an IB Diploma, and was subsequently accepted into Drexel University as a mechanical engineering student. Arfan excelled at Drexel, ultimately winning 1st place with his team Senior Year at the Drexel Mechanical Engineering Department Senior Design Competition. In 2019 he graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering, and began working as a Project Manager at LaFrance Corp.

Arfan once again excelled at his career and was loved by his team. When he was not working, he enjoyed spending time with his wife Anastasia, going for runs, playing video games, enjoying music, and being adventurous with food. He was a genuine and caring young man, and is survived by his wife, parents, and little sister.

With his wife and close friends in Philadelphia and a few family members in the East Coast, we held an initial Janazah and viewing at Khadijah Alderman Funeral Home on Saturday October 11, 2025. Arfan was brought home to Houston,  and we held another Janazah for his family and friends in Texas at Hamza Mosque on Tuesday October 14, 2025. His final resting place is at ISGH Waller cemetery at 22505 Stokes Rd, Waller, TX 77484.
