Aqdas's obituary
In Loving Memory of Aqdas Kuraishi
Aqdas Kuraishi, 72, of Temecula, California, passed away on December 26, 2024, after a brief battle with metastatic pancreatic cancer.
Born on December 3, 1952, in Pakistan to Sarfaraz and Amatullah, Aqdas spent his early years there before his family moved to Canada. He grew up in Canada, where he completed high school before pursuing his passion for medicine at the University of Toronto. After earning his medical degree and completing his residency at McMaster University, his career took him across the globe, practicing medicine in the Northwest Territories, various cities in Australia, and Southern California.
In his mid-20s, Aqdas settled in Oregon, where he built both a thriving family practice and a family of his own, welcoming two daughters, Alia and Nadia.
In 1987, he and his family relocated to Southern California, where he continued his lifelong dedication to medicine. A compassionate and deeply empathetic physician, he worked in both private practice and hospital settings, with a special fondness for the fast-paced environment of the emergency room. Known for his unwavering commitment to his patients, he made the selfless decision during the 2008 recession to continue treating those in need, regardless of their insurance status.
After retiring in 2020, Aqdas quickly realized that a quiet life was not for him. He returned to work for a year at a clinic in Hilo, Hawaii, before discovering a newfound passion for a game: pickleball. He immersed himself in the sport, spending countless hours on the court, making new friends and analyzing every aspect of the game.
Beyond the pickleball court, Aqdas found joy in traveling. Whether visiting family in Arizona and California, sharing time with his sister in Las Vegas, or exploring Mexico, Florida, Ireland, and Scotland, he embraced every adventure. Photography was another cherished passion of his, capturing the beauty of the places he visited.
Aqdas was preceded in death by his parents, Mohammad Sarfaraz and Amatullah Kuraishi, and his beloved granddaughter, Amani Kuraishi. He is survived by his sister, Nilofar Kuraishi; his brother, Manzar (Jacqueline) Kuraishi; his children, Alia Kuraishi (Michael Hlubik), Nadia (David) Alden, Sean Kuraishi, and May Kuraishi; and his grandchildren, Eli, Vincent, and Anaya.
His warmth, generosity, and love for life touched everyone he met. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered.
Celebration of Life will take place on Friday, April 4, 2025 from 10:00-11:30am at Buccaneer Park, 1506 S Pacific St. Oceanside, CA 92054 followed by an “open house”reception at nearby Witch Creek Winery 2906 Carlsbad Blvd, Carlsbad CA 92008. We invite everyone to wear vibrant clothing as we celebrate Aqdas’s life.
