April's obituary

April Michele Morris was a loving and caring wife, mother, gigi (grandmother), sister, aunt, and friend.

Born June 24th, 1964 to Billie Marlin Boyd and Dianna Culp (Banks), she is survived by her husband and partner in life, Charles Cranford Morris, her children-- Kieran Morris-Kotowski (& partner Mark Morris-Kotowski), Elisabeth Morris (& partner Micah Bell), Charles (Karl) Cranford William Morris, and Mazikeen Morris, and grandchildren Caspian Morris-Kotowski, Balin Morris, and Vera Morris. She also leaves behind her sister Mary Davis, brother John (Billie) Boyd, sister-in-law Renee Buchanan, and best friend of 51 years Nora Lee Luttrell, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded by her informally adopted son Willis Carson.

After graduating from Lakeview High School, she attended Oakland University where she studied Human Resource Development.

If you knew April, it’s likely you met through the myriad organizations that she volunteered her time to. Whether Intervarsity Christian Fellowship, Oakland County M.A.D.D., Pontiac Firemen, 4H, Class Act Theater, Michigan Youth Theater, Howarth United Methodist Church, or the Unschoolers Waterpark Gathering, April could not be a part of a group without being involved-- she took on many volunteer positions over the years and while she didn’t seek out leadership, she didn’t shy away from it either. She showed up consistently and used her voice to advocate for the people and causes important to her. When April saw a need, she looked around her community for resources to address it, and if there weren’t any she built them herself.

She was a founder of R.E.A.C.H. (Restoring Education And Cherishing Home), an inclusive support group for homeschooling families that provided activities and classes for the community, regardless of technique or philosophy-- a group that is still active today, 28 years later.

She was also a facilitator of the Survivors of Suicide Support group with Common Ground and volunteered with The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and spoke at many conferences, sharing her experience and perspective.

April was the embodiment of accepting people where they were, offering support, a listening heart, and love to those who needed it. There was always room for one more at her table. During their 38 years of marriage, Chuck and April opened their home to many young people in need of a safe and stable living situation-- some stayed for weeks; others for years. There were two mottos that April lived by: “People are more important than things,” and “Kids are people too.” Her legacy is one of love and community building.

She was a ferocious fighter against pancreatic cancer and we were blessed to have four years with her after the diagnosis. Her final years were filled with adventures. She transitioned from this life on June 27th, 2024 at the age of 60.

Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service followed by a celebration of life at the Seyburn Pavilion in Auburn Hills from 11:00 A.M.- 4:00 P.M. on August 24th, 2024.
