Antonio's obituary
It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Antonio Perez of New Hyde Park, New York on January 17, 2023, at the age of 95.
Antonio was born in La Puebla del Caraminal, Spain on November 10, 1927. He studied to be a pilot in Spain and then came to the United States to work with his father on the Standard Oil Company ships in New York. He later dedicated over forty years working as a machinist at Kerns Manufacturing where he managed the engineering of aerospace, defense, space and marine products.
Antonio met the love of his life, Carmen Lombas Garcia (Carmina), and they married in 1981. Together, they founded the non-profit organization, Amigos de la Zarzuela in the spring of 1985. The organization was dedicated to the promotion and performance of the Zarzuela, the most popular form of Spanish musical theater. Antonio proudly helped organize an ongoing series of concerts, lectures and festive gatherings, seeking to make the Zarzuela better known in North America. To say Amigos de la Zarzuela was his passion would be an understatement.
Antonio and his beloved wife Carmina enjoyed traveling to spend time with family members; most frequently to Spain and Arizona.
Antonio will be remembered as a brilliant engineer who could make and fix anything, a musically talented tenor with the voice of an angel, and a handsome man with a timeless smile and a great sense of humor.
He will be lovingly remembered by his daughter: Isabel, his grandchildren: Anthony and Jamie, his great-grand children: Matthew, Ethan, James Jr, and Brantley, his sister: Maria, his nieces: Mariam and Theresa and his grandnieces and nephews: Alexandra, Kaitlyn, Natalie, Taylor, Jack, Megan, Julia, Luke and Aidan.
He will also be dearly missed by his friends at the Amigos de la Zarzuela.
Antonio was predeceased by his loving wife: Carmina, his sisters: Calucha and Maria Teresa and his son: Anthony Perez.
