Antonio's obituary

Antonio Javier Espinosa passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, April 8, 2021 in Spokane, Washington surrounded by his loving wife, Petrice, and children, Montera, Luca, and Carolina.

Tony was born to Jorge Espinosa and Mary Esther Espinosa in Los Angeles, California on February 20, 1961. His siblings, Monica, Marina and Alejandro, quickly followed. After a short time living near Ensenada, Mexico, Mary and her children settled in the California Central Valley and eventually San Jose.

As a student/athlete at the University of California-Davis, Tony graduated with a BS degree in Electrical Engineering, an MS degree in Electrical Engineering and an MBA degree. Later, he attended the Stanford Executive Program (SEP) at the Stanford University Graduate School of Business. During his years playing varsity football and intramurals in the off-season, Tony established lifelong friendships. This circle of friends (the “Master Batters”) remained unbroken to this day and would gather regularly to tell “old” stories and share life together with much laughter and joy.

Tony was a serial entrepreneur who held senior executive positions at several technology companies during his career. Most recently, he was the CEO & Founder of Corlina, Inc. A gifted people connector, Tony was a mentor and advisor to many people around the world who he met during his long career.

Undoubtedly, Tony's greatest success and pride was his family. Tony and Petrice met in 1992 in San Francisco and married in 1994 in Carmel, California. Their 3-week adventure honeymoon in New Zealand, where they hiked the Milford Track, was the launch of a 26-year marriage built on undying love and respect for one another. Their first child, Montera Christiana, was born in 1998, followed by Luca Corrado in 2000 and Carolina Bergen in 2003. As a proud, engaged father, Tony coached them for many years in basketball and baseball and never missed a single soccer game over their long careers. Watching his kids play sports was one of the greatest joys of Tony’s life. Additionally, he wanted to open their eyes to the greater world around them at a young age by learning a second language, so he and Petrice gave their children the gift of a french immersion education at the International School of the Peninsula followed by middle school and high school at Menlo School where he delighted in taking pictures at their sporting events.

Tony loved his time behind the camera and he was most content while meticulously processing his photos and sharing them with those he loved. His family is grateful for the treasure trove of pictures that he left behind documenting every single sporting event, graduation, holiday, camping trip and vacation they ever took.

Tony will be remembered for his big heart and his fierce loyalty to those he cared about. He was a man of great character and he will be deeply, deeply missed.

Tony is survived by his wife, Petrice, daughters Montera and Carolina, and son Luca; his sisters Monica Fermoyle (Mark), Marina Espinosa (Steve Chappell), brother Alejandro Espinosa, nephews Matthew Sanford and Conor Fermoyle and niece Felicia Ficken (Jack), as well as aunts, uncles and many cousins. He is also survived by his parents-in-law, Glenn and Susan Paulson, sister-in-law Kirsten Martter (Kevin Lammers) and nephews Cale and Finn Martter. Tony was predeceased by his father, Jorge Espinosa, his mother, Mary Esther Espinosa, and his brother-in-law, Jason Martter.

The celebration of Tony’s life will be on Sunday, June 13, 2021 at 10 am in Atherton, CA. Please see event tab for details.
