Antonia's obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Antonia Ortegon, also endearingly known as Tonie, who departed this life on January 11, 2024, born on January 28, 1954. Antonia lived a full and generous life, touching those around her with her caring, bubbly, and witty personality. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness and generosity, a testament to the remarkable woman she was.
Antonia is survived by her devoted husband, Reynaldo Ortegon, whom she married in 1986; her loving Daughter, Sarah Weessies; her son-in-law, Stephen Weessies; and her adorable granddaughter, Sophia Weessies. Antonia's vibrant spirit lives on in her sisters, Gloria Prine Herlinda Pizana, Grace Lara, and Corina Gonzalez , her brother, Joaquin Gonzalez. Her mother-in-law, Enadina Escarsega her sister-in-laws, Mary Beth Demeur, Corrina Coronado, Patricia Grijalva and Jenni Ortegon, and her brothers-in-law, Richard Ortegon, Glenn Prine, Mark Pizana, Mark Lara, and Gabe Grijalva. Cousin in law and Maid of Honor Alexandra Brager. Her in-laws Melanie and Joseph Weessies. As well as a long list of nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Antonia was predeceased by her Father, Joaquin Gonzalez, Mother, Ruth Gonzalez, Niece, Glenda Prine, and her Father-in-Law, Vicente Escarsega.
Antonia was a proud alumni of Clovis High School, graduating in 1973, and further completed her Cosmetology License from Federico Beauty Colleges of California in 1975. She had a zest for life, always seen engaging in activities that she held close to her heart, such as drawing, painting, crafting, cleaning, baking and cooking.
Antonia was a constant source of love and joy in Avenal First Baptist Church and the Avenal Rotary Club, where she was an attendee. Her love for food was famous among her family and friends, particularly her fondness for Cheese Enchiladas, Chinese Food, Fried Chicken, and Macaroni Salad. Her favorite book was The Bible, and she enjoyed watching shows like Gilmore Girls, Blue Bloods, and The Food Network. Antonia was an avid fan of music, with favorites like Bruno Mars Gwen Stefani, not to mention a love for oldies.
Antonia loved supporting the SF Giants and treasured watching performances such as "Wicked the Musical". Her love for travel took her to beautiful spots like Pismo Beach and Disneyland, and locally, she was often found at Los Reyes Restaurant in Coalinga or The Flying Dutchman in Pismo. Her favorite color was red, reflecting her vibrant and passionate spirit.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Antonia at 2707 W Dakota Ave. on February 3, 2024 at 10:00 AM. Antonia will be intensely missed by her husband, daughter, son in law, granddaughter, her beloved kitties, and everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her. May she rest in peace.
