Antonia's obituary
- My beloved mother, Antonia Hurtado Zerboni, passed peacefully into Eternal Life , on March 8, 2022 . She was surrounded by me, her daughter, her friend Berta, and one of my dearest former students, who I love like my own, Maribel. Her grandchildren came all to visit her at he hospital and at Good shepherd. Her prayer group, Rosas de María, supported our family with prayers and care, so did our Lake friends also. For the last 8 years of her life, mami lived with my husband Ron, and with me, in Winter Haven, FL , My dear Mother was born on March 11, 1922 to Cesar Hurtado-Toledo and Graciela Hurtado Romero, in Maracaibo, Venezuela. Her mom Graciela died 22 days after of childbirth, so my mom was raised by her aunt Carmen, who we all called “Madrina.” Mami completed her elementary school years at Our Lady of El Pilar Catholic School in Maracaibo, and afterwards, her dad sent to Curacao to study at Welgelegen Catholic School to learn languages and to complete her education. My grandad remarried and had 2 children Our beloved uncle Antonio (RIP 2021) and beloved tia Elba, whom we love very much. She and her husband are in Caracas. Very young, Mom married Dr. Rafael Perez-Anzola and after 3 years, she gave birth to me, her first daughter, and she named me Graciela (for her mom), 11 months later my dear brother Jesus Enrique was born. 3 years later my parents divorced and my mom had to work to support her 2 children. We moved to Madrina’s house as my mom needed support. Mom started working, and also devoted her life to raise us two. Her language skills helped her to move up, and she was hired by the Consulate of the United States in Maracaibo, Venezuela. She remarried and had a happy marry life with Lelio Zerboni, who we called dad from 1958 to his death in 2003. Mom continued her career, and was busy raising us, as well as being a wife. She was sent to Caracas later on, to work at the United States Embasy. She had a beautiful career there. She was always very proud to had been assigned, together with a team, to prepare the visit in 1961 of USA president John F Kennedy, and his wife Jackie to Caracas, Venezuela. She got to meet them both and later my mom got thank you letters from the Foreign Service of USA. I quote a paragraph from one of the letters she got: “ President Kennedy has personally asked me, to convey his appreciation to you, and each staff member who has contributed to the success of his visit. I do it very willingly though this letter, and I hope that you accept these expressions and our thanks for your work so splendidly carry out. Signed: Allan Stewart . This one was one of the highlights of her career. My mother was a very devout Catholic, and a very loving mother, and wife. She sent us to private Catholic Schools from first grade to the end of high school. She always kept us close to her. She instilled us with good values and love for God. My brother became a Computer specialist, and My degree was in Special Education. My brother married in 1980 and he, and his wife had my mom’s beloved first grandchild Arturo, in 1981 I married the love of my life, and moved to Florida with my husband Ron, and we had her second grandson, Ronnie. My brother later on remarried, and they had 2 beautiful girls, Veronica and Vanessa. It was a very great time for mom to dote on her grandchildren, and to enjoy retirement. We adopted a little girl Brittnie. Our families were my dad, and mom’s joy and love. We travelled all summers to Venezuela, and alternate Christmas to be with them and my in laws. In 2003 we lost my brother in May, 2003, my Dad in October 2003, and my dear father in Law in May 16, 2003. We survived together as a family, as my mom guided us , with a total trust in God, through these very difficult time. Mom always supported her family throughout our lives and helped and gave us support during our lives. Mom was very close to her many cousins in Venezuela and we were used to celebrate important occasions together. Her Hurtado, Araujo, and Belloso cousins were always very close to her, My mom loved to play cards with her friends/family or also to play bingo. She also loved to dance but most of all, she loved God, and her family. Mom moved to Fl in 2014 and we lived 8 very happy years with her. She passed her citizenship test and became an American Citizen at age 95. She was the best ! We will miss her greatly. Mami was predeceased by both her parents, her son Jesus, her stepmother Mama Naty, her husband Lelio, my parents in law, her brother Antonio, and many of her cousins whom she loved very much. Recently she was very sadden for the death of Lucy, my brother’s first wife, who died too soon at age 61. Mom is survived by me, her son in law Ron , who she called my hijo (her son) , daughter in Law Maria Teresa, and mom’s 5 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren Enzo and Francesco.
