Anthony's obituary

Anthony C. Rubino passed away peacefully on April 17th after a brief, but courageous battle with pneumonia. Born on February 6, 1982 in Quincy, MA, five minutes before his twin brother, whom he often teased about being the “better looking twin”, even though they were identical.

Despite being born with cerebral palsy, Anthony never let his wheelchair hold him back. A passionate Boston sports fan, you could always count on a game of some sort being on his tv, Anthony screaming at the screen whenever anything didn’t go his team’s way. He had quick wit like none other, but he had a heart of gold wrapped with the biggest smile and lit up any room he entered.

He attended the Cape Abilities Day Program in Hyannis. In 2017, he helped organize a fundraiser for the Jimmy Fund, demonstrating his commitment to helping others despite his own health issues. Anthony wrote a letter to the Jimmy Fund, along with his picture holding a signed Jason Varitek baseball, asking them to accept the donations they had raised.

Some of his happiest moments were spent dining out, enjoying movies with his brothers, deejaying the Challenger Club, attending the Sandpipers dances or occasionally taking in a Boston Red Sox game. One of his most recent memories at Fenway, he went up to the Green Monster with his brother and friends. He said it was one of his favorite times. He truly was larger than life.

Anthony graduated from Massachusetts Hospital School in Canton, MA, in 2004, forming lasting friendships and creating joyful memories including a class trip to Disney World. Anthony even went on an alumni trip with former classmates and his sister in 2011. Anthony thrived in the go go go atmosphere from the moment the plane landed. Even going on the well known, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster seven times!

Another memorable time for Anthony was when he participated three times in the Falmouth Road Race with his mom, a devoted caregiver of 43 years, pushing his wheelchair for those races. He was so proud to be a part of such a big event raising money for Cape Abilities.

Though his health declined with age, Anthony faced challenges with resilience and a positive spirit. Anthony would always bounce back. He never complained about anything! He always just rolled with the punches that life threw at him and made the best of any situation.

Unfortunately, this last battle was too much to overcome. It won’t be the same without Anthony. He will be sorely missed, but his family takes comfort in knowing that he is no longer in pain and is free of the confines of his wheelchair.

He is survived by his mother, Jean T. Christiani and partner Stuart of Plymouth, father Michael P. Gibbons of Plymouth, twin brother Frank P. Rubino and wife Daisy of Rhode Island, brother Jarrod M. Gibbons and wife Monica of Salem, sister Christina N. Wolfson (Gibbons) and husband Austin of Plymouth, grandmother Mary E. Christiani of New Bedford, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins, and nieces/nephews: Evan, Sydney, Sebastian, Sofia (goddaughter), Sheldon, Luna, and Emilia.

He is reunited in heaven with his biological father, James N. Rubino, Uncle Charles Rubino, Uncle Jack and Aunt Reenie Rubino, Uncle Nicholas Christiani, and grandparents Anthony (Antee) and Margaret Rubino, grandfather Frank Christiani and grandparents Thomas and June Gibbons.

A celebration of life will take place on June 7, 2025 at St. Bonaventure Church, 803 State Road, Manomet, MA at 10:00am with Celebration of life reception to follow.
