Anthony's obituary
Anthony Lynn Pointer, beloved father, son, brother, uncle, grandson, and friend passed away unexpectedly on May 14, 2024 in Rancho Cordova, California at the age of 38. Born on March 28, 1986, in Carmichael, California to Ronald Pointer and Beverly Plosa-Bowser, Anthony spent his first years in Rancho Cordova before moving many times and living in many cities. All in all, he built friendships and made magical memories in Califon, New Jersey; Bethlehem, and Carlisle, Pennsylvania; Montgomery, Alabama; Merritt Island, Florida; Roseville, California; Gainesville, Florida; and Colorado Springs, Colorado before returning to the Sacramento area, where he truly felt “home.”
He attended Merritt Island High School, Merritt Island, FL and ultimately graduated from Oakmont High School, Roseville, CA. Anthony excelled at every physical endeavor he attempted with a natural ease, and earned varsity letters for Football, Swimming, and Water Polo. He was a Life Scout with Boy Scouts of America. After high school, Anthony took classes at various community colleges but his expertise proved to be people and the lasting impression a face-to face interaction with him instilled. Anthony’s boisterous personality, contagious smile, and gregarious laughter made his presence an immediate focal point in any room he entered. He was instantly loved by all who met him and cherished by the few he entrusted into his innermost circle.
Anthony worked as an entrepreneur, coach, swim instructor, American Red Cross instructor /certifier for all courses, certified EMT and lifeguard for most of his life. He was highly regarded for his compassion, kindhearted demeanor and fun-loving encouragement of others. Invariably, he was the life of the party.
His ultimate passion was to teach young kids the definition of confidence, of perseverance, and of responsibility disguised in a swim lesson. His ultimate success was the creation of a community-focused all-encompassing aquatics program in a chronically underprivileged neighborhood. Anthony brought his talents to a refurbished pool in downtown Sacramento. In the last seven years this program blossomed into a safe, fun, development of swimming skills not previously available. Children who grew up within Anthony’s program became responsible high school lifeguards, competitive swimmers and water polo players in their own community. An expansion of this program to the remaining pools in the district is underway. Anthony was most proud of offering a different future for children who previously had scarce opportunities.
Anthony will be deeply missed by his daughter Lilia, age 9, Lilia’s mom Annalisa Siino, parents Beverly Plosa~Bowser (Cameron) and Ronald Pointer (Tonette), grandfather George Plosa, siblings Nicholas Pointer (Kiley), Jacquelynn Rice (Devin), Stephanie Husted (Brian), Cameron Bowser, Jr. (Nadia), Evan Lomeli (Meghan), Chris Lomeli (Sara), Melissa Pointer as well as countless other extended family members, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He was taken from this world far too soon.
