Anthony Lewis Helbling, age 85, of Vero Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully in his home on January 8, 2022. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Helen Catholic Church in Vero Beach, Florida on February 5, 2022.
Originally from Aberdeen, Ohio, Anthony relocated to Cincinnati, Ohio where he attended the Ohio College of Applied Science and obtained his degree in Engineering. He spent over forty years as a manufacturer’s sales representative while also continuing his passion for playing music. He was a talented musician, having played the clarinet in high school and winning a regional “King of Swing” Benny Goodman contest publicized for the Steve Allen movie, “The Benny Goodman Story.”
While in Cincinnati, he performed with some of the best musicians in the area and recorded on the “King Records” label. He also was a regional salesman for over 40 years before retiring from his profession. A long-time resident of Cincinnati, Anthony later worked at Kroger’s in Finneytown after retiring before moving to Florida. A devout Catholic, he and his second wife, Jane had a special devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary and were committed to the pro-life movement. Anthony also enjoyed volunteering at his parish.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Josephine, his father, John, his mother, Mary, his three brothers, and one sister. He is survived by his second wife, Jane, his children Mary Rose Maguire (Michael) of Columbus, Ohio, and John J. Helbling (Debbie) of Cincinnati, Ohio, and their children, Anthony, Nicole Sturgill (Erik), and their daughter, Sophiya, also of Cincinnati. Loved by his remaining four brothers, numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws, and cousins, he will always be remembered for his great sense of humor, his incredible big bear hugs, and his constant admonition, “Do the right thing.” He will be greatly missed. Donations may be made to the Cincinnati Right to Life (https://cincinnatirighttolife…) in his name.
