Antero's obituary
Tuesday September 21, 2021, Wheaton resident, Antero Ramiscal Tomas III, loving husband to Beth and devoted father of Vashti (Genna Ayres) Selix and Valleri Tomas, passed away suddenly at the age of 55. His family is heartbroken.
Born in the Philippines to Antero Tomas Jr. and Leonor Ramiscal, Antero emigrated to the US when he was three years old. He grew up in Chicago and Skokie, graduating from Loyola Academy in 1984. He met his soulmate, Beth, in 1988. They married in 2000 and made their home in Wheaton with their daughters Vashti and Valleri.
Antero was a quiet man with a great sense of humor. He loved a good belly laugh and could take a good ribbing...giving as good as he got. He loved watching funny videos on YouTube and could easily spend an entire evening laughing at all kinds of humorous clips.
Creative at his core, he studied art at Columbia College in Chicago until he discovered his passion for computers – which he later called his “art.” He worked in IT most of his career, the last nearly 22 years with W.W. Grainger as a Business Systems Analyst.
He was passionate about movies, music, art and comics, but mostly, he was passionate about his family. Antero’s focus in life was to make sure his family was happy. He encouraged his children to follow their dreams. He proudly watched his eldest, Vashti, find their way to a successful career and, in the summer of 2021, Antero was overjoyed to see them marry the love of their life, Genna. Antero introduced his youngest child, Valleri, to comics early on and that began a shared love of them. He was so proud to see Val graduate high school this year and start their first year studying Comic Art at their dream school. The kids “launched,” he was looking forward to empty nest adventures with Beth. Sadly, that was not to be.
Antero is survived by his mother, Leonor Ramiscal, three brothers, Anthony (Fatimah) Tomas, Armando Tomas and Abraham (Susan) Tomas, his sister-in-law Karen (Brian) Pearl, many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews, and most recently, his great nephew.
His grandparents – Antero Sr. and Maxima Tomas, Hilario and Cristina Ramiscal, his mother-in-law - June Selix, his father - Antero Tomas, Jr. and his brother-in-law - Karl ”Skip” Selix, are with him on the other side.
The family will host a Memorial/Celebration of Life and reception for Antero on Saturday November 13, 2021 at the Mary Lubko Center in Wheaton from 11am-3pm. The first half hour will be a private family service. Following Covid protocol, guests will be able to RSVP to come share a memory and/or pay respects. Friends, colleagues and loved ones will also be able to share a memory online through www.EverLoved.com.
