Annita's obituary

Annita Vogelsong Losey, lovingly known as "Grumsy," passed away peacefully on March 6, 2026, in Lafayette, Louisiana, at the age of 73. Born on June 23, 1952, in Hicksville, Ohio, Annita brought joy and creativity to all who knew her throughout her remarkable life.

Annita was the cherished daughter of the late Ralph Vogelsong and Mary Barker. She is survived by her siblings: Arlette McGill, Ralph “Todd” Vogelsong, Becky Breckler, Jo Barrera, Polly Sulfridge, Rex Vogelsong, Sandra “Sas” Keesbury, and Stephanie Pyles. Her family was a cornerstone of her life, and she shared a deep bond with each of them.

As a loving mother and grandmother, Annita’s love for her family was endless. She leaves behind her daughters Maggie Vogelsong Losey and Sarah Losey Loiotile; her 7 grandchildren; and her 4 great grandchildren. Annita’s family was the heart of her world—she delighted in spending time with them and creating lasting memories; including licking (yes, licking) rocks to reveal their true properties and colors. She taught all her grandchildren about all types of rocks and fossils, and always had a spot on the shelf for everyone’s stones they picked up.

Annita had a passion for crafting that was unmatched. Whether painting pictures or putting together intricate creations (or Miscellaneous Debris, as she named it) with E-6000 glue in hand, she really put her heart into every project. She lovingly put together quilts for her family- also known as “Grumsy Blankets” that will be cherished and snuggled up in forever. Craft nights with her grandchildren—and later her great-grandchildren—were among her favorite moments. These days were filled with laughter, love and creativity as she shared her talents and inspired those around her to embrace their own artistic sides. Her E-6000’d creations and other beautiful pieces of art remain as treasured reminders of her creative spirit.

Nutty-Buddy’s, Pinkies, and multiple mason jars of Diet Coke often filled the table as she worked on her crafts or played with her grandchildren. She had an extraordinary ability to make everyone feel loved and cared for, even if she had just met them. She had a beautiful voice and loved to sing in her band, or even just “Fly Me To The Moon” to her great grandchildren as a lullaby. Her goofy sense of humor came through in moments like jokingly (or so we think..) threatening to “beat you with a spider leg,” a phrase that became a funny family memory.

Grumsy’s legacy is one of love, creativity, and devotion to family. She will be missed so deeply by all who had the privilege of knowing her and being loved by her. May the memories she helped create bring comfort to those who miss her earthside. Know she has said she will come back as a silver hare, so keep an eye out. She also often advised to keep your paint water and diet coke (or whatever beverage have you) separate so you don’t accidentally drink paint water, don’t forget to lick a few rocks, and never stop being creative.
