Annie's obituary
After Annie Herring's husband was discharged from the service in 1960, they migrated to Harlem, New York in pursuit of better opportunities. The family moved to the Lower East Side on February 14, 1966. Annie Herring lived in Gompers Houses where she helped to raise several of her grandchildren.
Annie Herring worked in several jobs including as a school crossing guard, toll collector, and finally as a clerk at Metropolitan Life Insurance company in 1981 until she retired. All her life as a believer in God, she dedicated herself to her family and her church. Elder Herring became a member of Dewitt Reformed Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Earle Hall in 1969. She has served as a Deacon and Elder on the governing body, the Consistory. She served as the Vice President of the Consistory for several years. As Vice President of the Consistory, she assisted with governing the church through the illness and passing of the late Rev. Carolyn Holloway until Rev. Edwards was appointed.
Annie Herring precedes her last remaining brother Richard Hines. Her sisters Effie Williams, Pauline Randolph and brother Rufus Hines Jr., Broadie Hines transitioned before her.
Annie Elizabeth Herring's last year was spent with family in Orlando, Florida.
