Anne Cunningham Muceus (Annebet to most, also ACE, AC / “Acey,” or ACM), 78, of Paradise Valley, NV, passed away peacefully on January 27th, 2026, in Reno, NV, with her hands both held by her husband and son.

Born to Helen Crocker (née Cunningham) and J. William Littler in Boston, she grew up in Massachusetts – Milton, Lincoln, and Nantucket, and from an early age, manifested her life as an artist and equestrian. Between art classes, she competed in Steeplechase, Hunter Trials, and Stadium Jumping as a young girl. She attended Concord Academy prior to matriculating at the Boston University School of Fine and Applied Arts.

After graduating, she “headed West” and received her Master of Fine Arts from UC Berkeley, while also getting to see an almost embarrassingly deep and rich roster of classic rock, blues, and jazz musicians live in concert. After her time in the Bay Area – and some waitressing-enabled ski bum years around Lake Tahoe, she married Ed Muceus in her mother’s home in Madaket on Nantucket, MA, and they settled in a tiny little town in Northern Nevada called Paradise Valley, eventually having their only son, Ian.

Her New England equestrian roots translated well out West, and she put those skills to work buckarooing in the Great Basin. Annebet continued her artistic ways, educating rural youth in fine arts and continually stretching the boundaries of her artistic expression.

She rocked out at Woodstock with Hendrix; jumped and showed at fine clubs in New England; traveled heavily; ski raced in the Sierra Nevadas; lived in Alaska, shooting spawning salmon for supper with a lever-action rifle; buckarooed in the high desert; rode, raced, drove, and showed mules; hunted mule deer in the Ruby Mountains; sculpted and painted works that will long remain; raced mountain bikes around Nevada and California; cared for the sick and elderly as a phlebotomist and CNA; introspectively walked the beaches near her winter home in Todos Santos, Mexico; and effortlessly existed throughout and in between these different worlds, where she was often the “bridge” or “connective tissue” – the continuity.

She will be remembered as the epitome of a friend, a “sister” to many, a generous and caring wife, and the most supportive and wonderful mother. Annebet lived a vibrant life full of deep human and animal connections, and she will be missed in ways that words will never do justice by an extensive network of friends and family members lucky enough to have known her friendship and love. She is survived by her husband, Ed – with whom she was married 44 years and 1 month to the day; her son, Ian; her daughter-in-law, Tenzing; and her granddaughter, Hannah.

Annebet’s spirit remains wild and unbridled.
