We’ve been listening to a list of songs that John put together that remind us of Anne. Here’s the Spotify link: https://open.spotify.com/play….

Happy Birthday, sweetie.

Happy Heavenly Birthday Miss. Anne.
You’ll be forever missed.
Ah sweet little Annie! Annie was a force to be reckoned with. I have never met anyone with so much love and so vibrant. Annie lit up every single room she ever entered. Everyone had to stop and talk to Annie bananie, and of course sing a little course of happy birthday which was every day for Annie. Her light will be greatly missed and fondly thought of forever more. See you again sweet Annie!!

I only had the opportunity to spent a little less than a year with Ms. Anne, but that lady was quite a big presence at The Family House, she loved to listen to music and sitting on the back patio with the sun shine on her face. Anne had a special way to show you how happy she was when staff would sing Happy Birthday and when she heard/saw her sister & Brother-in -Law during their visits with her. Anne will be missed dearly by so many , and she will always be a part of The Family House family.

2013, San Diego, CA, USA to Portland, OR
All the sweetest photos we have of Anne are with her buddy, John (i.e. my husband). John and Anne hit it off from the day they were introduced — probably sometime around 1998. But, some of my favorite memories of the two of them are of Anne co-piloting the camper van that we drove to move Anne to Portland in 2013. Anne spent most of the drive in the front seat, along with John, telling him that he was her buddy, and that he was doing a good job. What a pair they were.

2005, San Diego to Portland
In 2005, I decided to introduce Anne to Portland by bringing her up from San Diego via Amtrak for a vacation. We packed her suitcase, and boarded Amtrak at the Santa Fe Station in San Diego. Before too long, we had to change trains in LA for Portland. Anne moved pretty slowly with her wheeled luggage, but pulled it she did until we got settled into our lower-level seats near the bathrooms. Along the way, Anne made an amazing number of friends among fellow travelers. After we got settled into our seats, people from other parts of the train came down to visit us because Anne had so charmed them. It wasn’t the easiest trip for either of us — Anne had never slept outside of a bed before! — but I’ll never forget how her charm and vulnerability drew people to her.

58 years of life with Anne contains a lot of stories! I remember as a child discovering that my pet dog, Scamp, had died unexpectedly. I came into the bedroom that Anne and I shared and cried uncontrollably. Anne didn’t fully understand what had happened, but sat next to me and held me while I cried.
Anne went through a lot of changes in the years I worked with her as a caregiver. One thing that was constant was how sweet and affectionate she was. The first time I went to her house, Anne was very excited to shake my hand, warmly greet me, and hug me. Fast forward 5 years, when we were sitting together quietly in the dining room and holding hands and enjoying the Beach Boys. Thank you, sweet Anne, for sharing your beautiful spirit with me!

I can remember plain as day the smile on her face getting in my car to go drive to get a milkshake. She seemed so content. This was just one of the times spent with Anne that is stuck in my memory. But this little lady was fierce and so so sweet. And she won’t ever be forgotten. I still think of you anytime I put on Tony Bennett, thank you for introducing me to such an awesome artist. You will be missed Anne!! 💓

2013, Anne's new home!
The first time I met Anne I was working as a support staff in her new home. She came running up to me and gave me hug followed quickly by her pushing me away. She was always a busy body so she greeted me quickly and then she was onto more interesting things. I had the greatest pleasure of caring for her over the course of 6 years. Anne taught me so much over the years of caring for her and for that I will always be thankful. Anne always ensured she was wherever the party was and when she got older and was in a wheelchair we were always wherever Anne was. During downtime most of the staff could be found just sitting next to Anne in the living room or outside. She was an amazing presence in all of our lives and she will always be missed dearly.
