Anne's obituary
Anne is survived by her husband, Robert Prince, of Catonsville, MD; her children Sara Huff of Vermont; Ellen Dawson of Maine; Laurel Vincenty of North Carolina; and Wayne Huff of Bethesda, MD; her brother, Marvin Lewis of Texas; her grandchildren Alexandra Krohn of California; Aaron Dawson of Minnesota; Abigail Lee Dawson of Washington, DC; and Emma Rumpl of North Carolina; and beloved members of her extended family. Anne is preceded in death by her first husband, Stuart Huff of Gulfport, Florida, and her parents.
Anne was born on March 2, 1932, to Marvin Abijah Lewis and Elsie Schoenfeld Lewis in St. Petersburg, Florida. She graduated from St. Petersburg High School in 1949 and St. Petersburg Junior College in 1951. At age 19, she married Stuart Huff in St. Petersburg. She and her family lived in Illinois, Michigan, and North Carolina before relocating, in 1969, to Catonsville, Maryland, for Stuart’s job as Dean of Instruction at Catonsville Community College. Later, in her forties, Anne returned to college at Towson State University and graduated Summa Cum Laude in 1977 with a bachelor of science degree in journalism. She then pursued and received her MLA degree from The Johns Hopkins University. She embarked on a career as a legal secretary with a number of law firms in Baltimore. In May 1981, she married Robert Prince at St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church in Baltimore.
Anne had diverse interests. She enjoyed painting with oils, gardening, having dogs and the children’s assortment of animals around the house, bicycling, walking daily, hiking, camping, and taking violin lessons. She was a member of the Mountain Club of Maryland and a local gardening club. Throughout her life, Anne volunteered for a number of organizations, and before she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, she spent years as a hospice volunteer. In mid-life, she trained as a pilot and, with Robert, flew their single-engine Cardinal plane. She welcomed outside adventures, including kayaking among the glaciers off the coast of Newfoundland and hiking in the mountains of Acadia National Park in Maine.
A funeral is scheduled for Monday, March 11, at 11 a.m. at St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church, Baltimore, followed by a Commendation at the church’s columbarium. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Anne’s life.
