Background
Anne-Katrine was an amazing writer and believed in education and helping underprivileged children use education to break socio economic barriers. 826 Valencia has agreed to begin an Anne-Katrine scholarship fund.
826 Valencia provides over 5,000 students ages 6-18 with writing, tutoring, and publishing programs, and helps teachers inspire students to write.
They provide free, individualized tutoring to students in under-resourced schools and neighborhoods to create great leaps in learning as students build strong writing skills needed for future success.
Donations made to 826 Valencia in honor of Anne-Katrine will support the creation of the "Anne-Katrine Memorial Scholarship" The scholarship will be awarded to an exemplary 826 Valencia student as they become the first in their family to attend college in the US, and will provide both financial and advising support as they navigate college.
826 Valencia's Scholarship program also supports students in selecting a college, navigating financial aid, and making the transition from high school to college in partnership with Mission Graduates. Since the program’s inception, over 100 students have benefited from these awards, and 826 Valencia Scholars have gone on to pursue careers as writers, teachers, urban planners, financial consultants, and even 826 Valencia staff members.
