Nancy's obituary

Anne “Nancy” Monica Flynn (née Madden), 82, of Sarasota, Florida, passed away peacefully on February 14, 2026, at home after a brief illness- surrounded by friends and family.

Born on November 17, 1943, in New York City, Nancy lived a life defined by compassion, generosity, and unwavering devotion to others. She worked for many years as a freelance court stenographer in the New York City area and later in Sarasota, Florida, a profession that reflected her diligence, precision, and strong work ethic.

Nancy will be remembered above all for her extraordinary capacity to love. She saw the good in everyone and everything, and she dedicated her life to caring for those around her—often placing the needs of others far above her own. Her kindness, selflessness, and gentle spirit left a lasting impact on all who knew her. She also had a playful and often understated sense of humor that those closest to her came to know and love, and a generosity that knew no limits, always giving freely of herself to those she loved. It is fitting that Nancy passed on Valentine’s Day, a day that celebrates love, as she embodied that virtue so fully throughout her life.

She is survived by her three sons: John Flynn (Jenny) and their children, Stuart Jacome, Kate Flynn, and Sarah Flynn; Thomas Flynn and his daughter, Margaret Morrissey; and Michael Flynn and his children, Gage Flynn and Morgan Flynn.

Nancy is also survived by her sister, Kathy Madden, with whom she shared a particularly close and lifelong bond, and her brother, John Madden. She was predeceased by her siblings George Madden, Jane McCloskey, Vincent Madden, Joseph Madden, and Peter Madden.

The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to Kathy Madden, Nancy’s beloved sister and lifelong best friend, for the extraordinary love and devoted care she provided during Nancy’s illness. They also extend their sincere appreciation to her brother, John Madden, for his support during this time, and to her many nieces and nephews for their kindness, generosity, and steadfast support over the years.

The family also extends sincere thanks to the compassionate caregivers at Tidewell Hospice and Sarasota Memorial Hospital for their exceptional care and support.

A Catholic funeral Mass was held on March 20, 2026, at St. Martha Catholic Church in Sarasota, Florida. Nancy’s ashes will be interred at a later date, at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Valhalla, New York, at which time a memorial service will be held.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Nancy’s memory to the Tidewell Foundation (tidewellfoundation.org)

Nancy’s legacy of unconditional love and selflessness will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her.
