Anna's obituary
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Anna Maria van Meeteren (Antonisse), who departed peacefully on July 3, 2025, at the Kent Regency Nursing Home in Warwick, Rhode Island, USA. Anna was born in 1941, in Haarlem, the Netherlands.
Anna was the beloved wife of the late Cornelis (Cees) van Meeteren. A loving and dedicated mother, she is survived by her two sons, Henk and Petra van Meeteren, and Art and Amy van Meeteren. She was a cherished Oma (grandmother) to Alex, Maarten, and Vasco van Meeteren, and Alex and Elizabeth van Meeteren. Anna was also a beloved sister to Bill (Kathy✞), Rinus (Atie), Martin, Rob (Mariët), Aad (Lieke), and Ruud Antonisse.
Known for her vibrant spirit, strong-willed nature, and spunky personality, Anna lived a life rich in experiences and passions. She was incredibly hardworking and organized, qualities that served her well throughout her diverse career as a hairdresser and cosmetology teacher, and later as a campground owner/operator.
Anna had a deep love for traveling and found great joy in quilting, gardening, birding, reading, and cooking. She was a true adventurer at heart, always eager to explore new horizons. Having lived in the Netherlands, Indonesia, Nigeria, Canada and many states in the US, she frequently traveled around the globe for the fun of it. She mentored many in the quilting community, sharing her skills and passion generously.
Though a patriotic immigrant American, Anna frequently celebrated her Dutch roots with her characteristic wit, often proclaiming, "If it ain’t Dutch, it ain’t much" and "I’m not opinionated, I’m Dutch." These phrases perfectly encapsulated her unique blend of loyalty and playful assertiveness.
A celebration of life is being planned for July 18th at 11:00am - 2:00pm at East Greenwich Yacht Club in Rhode Island. A partial spreading of ashes of Anna and Cornelis will take place near Dutch Island in Rhode Island with the remainder being spread in the Netherlands in September. In lieu of flowers, charitable donations can be made to the American Audubon Society, an organization that reflects Anna's love for nature and birding.
