Background
The National Audubon Society was a quiet constant in my mother's life. She wasn't one for grand birding expeditions, but her backyard was her sanctuary. One of her favorite spots was the side of her shed, where numerous bird feeders were hung. Here, she'd spend hours with her cat, simply observing the bustling activity. When she moved into the nursing home, a collection of bird feeders needed to be assembled outside her window. After losing her sight, she enjoyed the sound of the birds at the feeder and knew immediately when the feeders needed to be refilled. When she passed, her love for these small, feathered visitors, was a clear part of her gentle spirit, remembered each time a bird landed on a feeder.
