Ann's obituary
Ann Kleiva Spikes, 81, was a beloved mother, devoted friend, and culinary artist who passed away in Washington on February 9, 2025. Born and raised in the Pacific Northwest, Ann’s love for life, learning, and adventure left an indelible mark on all who knew her. She knew how to have fun!
Ann was a lifelong foodie. She studied Nutrition at the University of Iowa and furthered her expertise in Dietetics and Food Service Management at Washington State University. Her passion for food went beyond education. She was an incredible chef, especially drawn to the elegance and complexity of French cuisine. Whether she was perfecting a classic dish or experimenting with new flavors, her kitchen was always a place of warmth, creativity, and delicious memories.
Beyond her culinary talents, Ann led an active and vibrant life. She found inspiration in art, deeply appreciated Santa Fe's creative culture, and engaged in countless activities that kept her spirit thriving. Her curiosity and passion for life shone through in everything she did, from 4-H to teaching, and she had a unique gift for making any space as lively and warm as her signature red lipstick.
She spent her childhood in Alaska and Washington before moving to Lubbock, Texas, where she lived for 20 years, married, and welcomed her daughter, Kimberly Jeanne Spikes. While Texas was home for many years, her deep roots in Mukilteo never faded, drawing her back in her later years. She carried the spirit of the Pacific Northwest and Texas, embodying their heart and vitality.
Ann will be deeply missed by those who had the privilege of knowing her. Her legacy lives on through the meals she lovingly prepared, the wisdom she shared, and the joy she brought to every moment.
A celebration of her life will be planned at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Ann’s memory by enjoying a beautifully cooked meal, appreciating a piece of art, or taking a moment to embrace the beauty of the world around you—just as she always did.
