Ann's obituary

KNIGHT, Ann Ruth (McKinnon), November 21, 1949 – November 18, 2025

Surrounded by the love of her family, Ann died at Andy’s House in Port Carling on Tuesday, November 18, 2025.

Ann was the cherished wife of Thomas Knight, devoted mother of Jeremy (Jerri Lynn) and Kimberly (Glenn). Doting Nanny to her grandchildren Porter, Koby, Taylor Ann, Samantha, and Evan.

Ann was the deeply loved sister of Jane McKinnon and Gail MacNaughton (John, deceased), much-loved aunt of Nicole, Matthew (Candy), and Adeline (Nick), and great-aunt of Malakhai, Nathaniel, Olivia, Charlotte, and Ben.

Ann grew up in Toronto and attended Whitney Public School, Branksome Hall, Queen’s University, and the Ontario Teachers’ College. Ann moved to Bracebridge with Thomas in 1975, where she taught at Glen Orchard, Riverside, Oakley, and Muskoka Falls elementary schools until her retirement in 1998. She was an enthusiastic, creative, and much-loved teacher.

She was an ardent supporter of the Alzheimer Society of Muskoka, where she volunteered for 35 years; an active and committed member (and church photographer) of Port Carling United Church; an enthusiastic gardener and member of the Bracebridge Horticultural Society; and a joyful member of the HICCUPS Ukulele Band.

She was well known in her community for helping others.

The family would like to express their thanks to the compassionate, caring staff of South Muskoka Memorial Hospital and Andy’s House.

A private family funeral is planned. A celebration of Ann’s life will be held in the New Year.

For those who wish, the family would appreciate donations to the Alzheimer Society of Muskoka, Andy’s House, or Port Carling United Church.
