Ann's obituary
There has been no obituary made public and we can’t let Ann go to the great beyond without a beautiful memorial so here it is. Ann, one of seven, was born on April 4th 1929 in Dinwiddie, VA to Bessie and Joseph Elmore. Growing up in such a large family made Ann realize at a young age just how important family was. Eventually she moved to Florida where she would create a life and spend the remainder of her days. Ann started her earlier days as a waitress before realizing her love of children and eventually becoming known as “Nanny” to the many children she had a hand in raising. Ann was a strong and resilient single mother of three for many years before meeting her soulmate, Arthur Riker in the 70’s. As the wife of a Master Chief, she was a proud Coast Guard wife. They would go on to adopt four children together. Ann spent her life raising her children and grandchildren as well as all of the neighborhood kids. A summer with Nanny and Papa meant making “whirlpools” in the pool, hanging in the tree house, swinging on the swing set, climbing trees, catching frogs, playing on the porch, snacks galore, and nap time always at 12:00pm when her beloved Young and the Restless aired.
Ann was also a long time member of Bethlehem Lutheran church. Before her beloved Art passed, she never missed a service. After his passing, she went as often as she could and loved to listen to sermons from Pastor Brones.
Ann is preceded in death by her parents, her siblings John Willie, Joseph, Mildred, Laura, Charlie, and Newton, her soulmate Arthur, daughters Cheryl, Candy, and Gale, son Jeff, and grandsons Ronald and Michael. She is survived by her children Leonard, Peggy Ann (Dennis), Sandy, Lorrie (Steve), and Sherrie, her most precious gifts, her grandchildren, Arthur (Jennifer), Bradley (Devy), John (Andrea), Alicia (William), Elizabeth, Heather, Tiffany, Sean, Cody, Crystal, Amanda (Randall), Edward, Callie (Joshua), Taylor, Caitlin, and Connor, 28 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, friends, and all that knew her as “Nanny”. Services are being done by Quinn-Shalz. A viewing will be on Thursday 3/27/25 at the funeral home from 1700-1900. The service will be at Bethlehem Lutheran church on 3/28/25 at 0930 followed by a service at the Veterans Cemetery at 1330.
If tears could build a stairway and memories were a lane, I would walk right up to Heaven and bring you back again.
