Ann's obituary

Ann Mae Pitts, age 100, passed away peacefully in her sleep on December 18, 2023. She was born on August 22, 1923, in Colfax, Grant Parish, Louisiana, and was one of 17 children born to Ezekiel Murphy and Ellen Brown Murphy. Ann was raised on her parent’s 25-acre farm.

She moved to California in 1949 at a young age and started her career as a seamstress, later opening her own shop. In Los Angeles she married and settled into her home where she always left the door open to family and friends.

She and her sister Acloud Mitchell co-founded The Church of God Missionary House of Prayer in Los Angeles. Ann spent her life serving the Lord and helping others, including making several trips to the Holy Land, teaching Sabbath School for children and participating in various charitable ministries.

Ann is preceded in death by her husband, Sergeant First Class Thomas Goodwin Pitts Jr. and her son The Honorable Phrasel L. Shelton. She is survived by two sisters – Elda L. Lewis and I. Lee Murphy Reed, her beloved grandchildren, her great granddaughter, and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She will be missed and remembered fondly.

A funeral service will be held for Ann on Friday, January 12, 2024, at 11:15 a.m. at Riverside National Cemetery, 22495 Van Buren Blvd., Riverside, CA 92518
