Ann's obituary

Ann Marie Cataldo (1937 - 2026)

Ann Marie Cataldo, age 88, of El Sobrante, California, formally of Beacon, New York, passed away on January 14, 2026.

Ann was born in Beacon in 1937 to Francis and Helen Zick McDowell. After her father’s death, Ann and her sister Helen were raised by their mother and enjoyed a loving family life in Beacon. Ann attended St. Joachim Elementary School, Beacon High School, and Krissler Business School in Poughkeepsie, New York. Upon graduation, she was employed at Texaco Research Center in Glenham, New York.

While employed at Texaco, she met the love of her life, Maurice (Maurie) Cataldo. Ann and Maurie wed in 1958 and had 2 sons, Peter and Paul. Together with Ann’s mother Helen, they enjoyed family life in Beacon. During this period, Ann began working at Craig House Hospital in Beacon as a medical secretary.

Following Ann and Maurie’s retirement, they relocated to El Sobrante in 2004 and lived there with their son Peter and his husband Carlos Martinez until their respective deaths. Maurie preceded Ann in passing in 2016. Ann is also predeceased by her parents, and sister Helen and brother-in-law Francis Butler.

Ann enjoyed traveling, especially to St. Martin and Hawaii, as well as spending time at casinos and dining out. Most importantly, Ann cherished spending time with her family. She was a life long and committed Roman Catholic and her faith sustained her through the difficulties of her life.

Ann is survived by her sons Peter (and his husband Carlos), Paul (and his wife Raquel), grandsons Paul Jr. (and his wife Kathryn) and Robert, and two great grandchildren. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews, as well as many loving friends and family members in both California and New York.

A memorial service is planned for January 27, 2026 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in San Pablo, California followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Callistus Church in El Sobrante, California on January 28, 2026 at 11:00 am. Donations to the American Heart Association may be made in Ann’s memory.
