Ann's obituary
She attended the University of Oklahoma and University of Texas before moving to New York to attend the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. While shooting a television show she caught the eye of Frank Carolan who was the director. They dated and were married in Austin, Texas on July 11, 1953.
After living in New York, Ann and Frank moved to New Orleans, where she was Miss Ann on the TV show Romper Room. They also started their family with the additions of their children Sean, Tara and Deirdre. Next they moved to Overland Park, Kansas, before settling into a forever home in Deerfield, IL and welcoming their fourth child Frank (Paco).
Ann was active in the community, serving as President of both the PTA and Arden Shore. She was also a member of Theater in the Rough where she enjoyed being part of many local plays and musicals. Ann received her real estate license and started with Zander Omen Realty in the early 1970’s. She enjoyed a long career as a real estate agent and broker, creating many great friendships with her clients and coworkers.
Another big part of her life was the Presbyterian Church of Deerfield. She was an Elder, served on the Woman Guild, Outreach and spent many hours volunteering at the “Friendly Desk.”
Ann lost her husband Frank in 1985 but did not shrink into grief. She made a new life with friends and stepped up as the matriarch of her family. She is survived by her 4 children and their spouses, 14 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. In her final months she was able to travel to two of her grandchildren’s weddings in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico and Palm Springs, CA.
Ann was a wonderful friend, mother and grandmother. She loved the cruises and the trips she took to Europe with her friends. She was a great story teller and engaged with strangers wherever she went. She never wanted to miss a party or gathering. She was funny, quick witted and a force of nature.
On March 24, 2020 Ann lost her 5 month battle with pancreatic cancer. Her last days were spent telling stories surrounded by loved ones in her home. She went peacefully in her sleep. A small family service was held via zoom on March 25th with additional celebration of life arrangements to be made when we are able to do so safely. Donations in her name can be made to the Presbyterian Church of Deerfield. https://onrealm.org/firstpres…
