I was deeply saddened to learn of Mrs. Maxey's passing. She was a wonderful teacher (my 7th grade teacher in 1989) and a kind person who inspired me to love reading and writing. She always encouraged me to express myself and to pursue my dreams. She made a lasting impact on my life and I will always remember her with gratitude and admiration.
She was not only a teacher, but also a mentor and a friend. She taught me valuable lessons that went beyond the classroom. She was always there to listen, to support, and to challenge me. I know she was a role model for me and many others, I'm sure.
Mrs. Maxey, you leave behind a legacy of excellence and generosity that will never be forgotten. You were a bright light in this world and I hope you are at peace.
Ken, my dear friend - my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this difficult time. Please accept my heartfelt condolences and my deepest sympathy.
Sincerely,
Maria Contreras- Martinez

Anita was my soprano sister in the BGC. She always had a smile and a hug for me. I enjoyed sharing daily text messages with her and was so delighted to actually see her again at FAME's 150 Anniversary dinner. We will miss the spirit of the love that she brought with her presence. My heart goes out to Ken and her sons.

My sincere condolences to Anita's family.
I first met Anita right after she joined the Brookinaires Gospel Choir at First A.M.E. Church. We shared a seat on the bus to Annual Conference and ended up sitting next to each other in the choir stand at church. We immediately bonded and developed a wonderful friendship over the years. She was like a sister, we could talk on the phone for hours about anything and everything. Anita was one of the most loving, kindest and funniest people I have ever known. I will miss her deeply.
Rest in peace my dear sweet sister. You have run the race, you have fought the good fight, now receive your Crown of Glory in God's Heavenly Choir.
Until we meet again,
Patricia Fox, Your Sister in Christ
