Nita's obituary

Anita Marie Kulhanek Boyer was called home to her Heavenly Father on October 3, 2023, after 93 years of life. She will be reunited with her loving former husband of 36 years William E. Boyer, and her beloved daughter and son-in-law Lauri and Keith Knedlik.

Nita, as she was known, was born February 26, 1930 to Joseph and Anna Kulhanek in La Grange, Texas. Raised with her two brothers, Cyril and Joe, and surrounded by lots of close and extended family members, Nita grew up on the family farm just outside of Fayetteville, Texas. Here she spent her youth helping her parents with numerous farm chores while attending St John’s School in Fayetteville. In later years, she became a dental assistant in La Grange before moving to Austin, TX where she met her future husband, then U.S. Air Force Sergeant William (Bill) Boyer.

Nita’s marriage to Bill in 1959 at St John the Baptist Church in Fayetteville, TX began a life full of travels and adventures to include living in Germany and visiting communist Czechoslovakia (1971) and visiting Scotland, England, New York City, Washington DC, Alabama, Virginia and Colorado to name a few. Nita loved adventure and her bravery and wit never ceased to shine through in any new or unknown situation.

Nita was a devoted mother who showered her four children with endless, unwavering love and care.

As a military wife she single-handedly took over the raising of her young children, all who were under the age of 5, while her husband completed numerous duty assignments and year long tours in Korea and Thailand. She was a fiercely independent, proud, Czech Catholic woman who was firm in her faith, who never shied away from hard work and who had a heart as big as Texas.

Nita took as much joy in being a grandmother as she did in being a mother. Whether chauffeuring her grandkids from school, babysitting them at a moment’s notice, or spoiling them with her Czech-roots cooking. She was known for her “make yourself at home” warmth and welcome. Her love, guidance and example of living a good life will continue to inspire her children, grandchildren and the generations to come.

With a life centered around family, faith and service to others, Nita possessed an entrepreneurial spirit and started or managed several businesses in her life. When not spending time with her family or working, Nita was a passionate reader who was known to fill the margins of any book, magazine, or newspaper with her insightful thoughts or comments.

Nita was the cherished mother of Martin Boyer of Kyle, TX, Michael Boyer of Buda, TX, Lauri Knedlik and Lucinda Lakos of Buda, TX. She was treasured by her 10 grandchildren, Benjamin Boyer, Brittany Beshears, Marcus Lakos, Jacob Boyer, Abby Knedlik, Alyson Boyer, Logan Lakos, Devin Knedlik, Madison Boyer, London Lakos and her great grandchildren Gavin Beshears, Mason Beshears, Emersyn Beshears, Keagen Beshears, and Mila Grace Boyer. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and loved ones.

Nita was preceded in death by her precious daughter, Lauri Knedlik; son-in-law Keith Knedlik; her former husband, Bill Boyer; her parents, Joe M. and Anna Kulhanek; brother and sister-in-law, Cyril and Jeanette Kulhanek and their son David; brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Rose Kulhanek and their daughter, Janie.

A funeral Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 205 E. Bell St, Fayetteville, TX. Father Steve Sauser will officiate, and burial will follow in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery immediately after the mass.  Reception to follow at St. John’s Parish Hall
