Anita's obituary
In Loving Memory of Anita Marie Dantzler
(1953-2024)
Anita Marie Dantzler, a beacon of warmth and wisdom, passed away on Sunday August 11, 2024, in the comfort of her home in Indianapolis, IN. Born to Anna and William Polacek on Feb 5, 1953. Anita’s life was a tapestry of love, life, education, and community service. Her childhood was filled with classical piano and an affinity for semi-precious stone cutting.
Anita was born and raised in Chicago, IL, with her sister Carol Polacek. Her parents were second-generation Slovak and raised their daughters in the Catholic traditions of their family. After graduating with honors from Immaculate Conception in 1972, she moved to Los Angeles, CA, where she worked at Flying Tigers while putting herself through UCLA. She graduated UCLA in 1985, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Economics.
In the year 1984, Anita's life was forever changed when she found her soulmate, Will Dantzler. Their union was the beginning of a beautiful journey, celebrated in a charming ceremony at a church in Vienna, VA. Together, they nurtured and raised four loving children: Dana, Olivia, Alexa, and Berhanu, who were the pride and joy of Anita's life. Her love only multiplied with the arrival of her first and only grandchild, Olivia Cornwell. Anita's devotion to her family was unwavering, shaping her life's purpose as she dedicated herself to their well-being and happiness.
For nearly 40 years, Anita balanced her life between running a business with her husband, her children’s education and activities, and caring for her elderly parents. She found community in the Benedictine Sisters of Virginia, which left an indelible mark on her family’s life.
Her legacy as the matriarch of the Dantzler family will be ever-lasting. Her life was a testament to the power of unconditional love.
Services to celebrate Anita’s life will be held in Indiana and Virginia. Her inurnment will be at Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you donate in her memory to either the Benedictine Sisters of Virginia (Bristow, VA) or Shepard Community Center in Indianapolis, IN.
