Angie's obituary
Gerry stopped blessing the world with her infectious smile, matriarchal beauty and classy gracefulness on October 15th, 2020 at 97 years young in Anderson, SC. Her journey to Heaven took a little longer than usual because God had to round up her 10 other brothers and sisters in Heaven to greet her at the gates along with her husband Tom, parents William & Edith and grandson Joe.
Already in Heaven is her loving husband, Thomas Mason, who passed away in July 1978. Her parents William L Williams and Edith Beryl Autry Williams, her sisters Olivia, Inez, Lucile, Katrina and her brothers W.L., Maurice, Durell, Ernest, Milton and Kenneth.
Gerry is lovingly remembered and survived by her brother Gene Williams of St. Petersburg, FL, her 3 children Gerry (Larry) Sykora of Anderson, SC, David Mason of St. Petersburg, FL and Cheryl (Glen) Williams of Shelbyville, TN. She was endeared by her 10 grandchildren: Kacy (Bryan) Hall of Salt Lake City, UT, Matt (Sasha) Sykora of Seattle, WA, David (Jessica) Sykora of Waco, TX, Cindy (Brian) Simmons of Birmingham, AL, April (Chad) Wood of Edgewater, MD, Wendy (Michael) Williams of Gallatin, TN, Kenneth Williams of Thompson Station, TN, Chris (Pam) Moore of Shelbyville, TN and Cary (Lori) Moore of Bell Buckle, TN
She is cherished by her 14 great grandchildren: Dakota Sykora and Austin Sykora, both of Watkinsville; Joe (Lauren) Sykora Jr. and Christopher (Kriscia) Sykora of Houston, TX, Audrey Simmons and Sam Simmons both of Birmingham, AL; Roman Sykora, Lucas Sykora and Beckett Sykora, all from Houston, TX; Anna Moore and Cara Moore from Shelbyville, TN, Zach Moore from Bell Buckle, TN, Caius Wood and Ansley Wood, both from Edgewater, MD. She is admired by her 4 great great grandchildren: Lana Sykora, Peyton Sykora, Christopher Sykora Jr., and Aiden Sykora. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Born in 1923, Gerry’s fun-loving and determined spirit took her through many journeys in life. Gerry was one of 12 children of which she was the 6th. She was born in Schley County in the small town of Ellaville, GA. Gerry relied a lot on God and sheer determination in her young life during the Great Depression. She attended Schley C. High School and Georgia Southwestern College in Americus, Georgia.
Gerry joined the Ellaville Methodist Church at age 15. She taught young children Sunday school and was an MYF counselor at Grace Methodist Church in St. Pete, FL. She was also a den mother for seven little boys in the Cub Scouts.
She worked as a Clearing House Teller at the American National Bank in Nashville, TN. She later worked with the city of St. Pete, FL. starting as a clerk, promoted to Service and Information, then to Administrative Assistant. She was promoted next to Budget Audit, then Budget Formulations and Control for two years, then Admin Services Officer, and finally retired in 1985. Gerry was the President of the American Society of Public Administration (ASPA) and President of Alpha ETA Chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha, a Philanthropic Sorority.
When asked to what she attributed her long life, she always replied “Faith, Friends and Family”. She lived her life modeling this to all who knew her.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 24th at 2:00pm ET at Greensboro First United Methodist Church
