Angela's obituary
Angelina Geck Lan Cheng, known as Angela and affectionately called Lyn, 78, passed away peacefully on September 28, 2025, in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
Angela was born on May 10, 1947, in Singapore. She lived a life shaped by responsibility, perseverance, and a strong sense of duty to her family, her faith, and her work. She earned a degree from the University of West London, an achievement she was proud of, and carried that discipline and focus into everything she did.
Not a lot of people know much about Angela’s life before she immigrated to Canada. She took over and led Dance Arts in Singapore from 1983, a school that is still running today and teaches a variety of dance styles to both children and adults. After moving to Canada, her life took a different path. She worked as a legal secretary and conveyancer, beginning with Ramzan Jussa Shah, then at the Law Offices of Nelson Tsui. She later spent many years at Watson-Goepel and finished her career at MLT Aikins before retiring.
Faith played a central role in Angela’s life. A devoted Catholic with deep spiritual roots, she found strength and structure through her beliefs. Her parish home was St. Anthony’s of Padua in Vancouver, BC, where she remained connected to the Church community throughout her life. In her final days, she was comforted by Fr. Justin Huang, whose presence brought peace and guidance during her transition.
Angela's greatest legacy is the family she raised and supported through years of hard work and responsibility. She raised her three children on her own while building a new life in Canada with limited support.
She was predeceased by her husband, Jimmy Teck Huat Yap, and her beloved sister, Winnie Leo.; and her parents, Theresa Lim Kim Huay and Stephen Cheng Shu Tzu. She is lovingly remembered by her children: Jamie Yap (and his wife Jasmine Daniels), Jonathan Yap, and Kimberley Yap; by her grandsons James Yap and Jayden Yap; and by her brother Leonard Cheng. Her memory will live on in their hearts and in the lives shaped by her sacrifices.
To those who knew her best, her family, friends, and colleagues, Angela was steady and unwavering. She lived with humility and grace, showing care through actions rather than words. She was deeply proud of all three of her children and doted on her two grandchildren.
May Angela Cheng’s memory bring comfort to all who knew and loved her. A Prayer Service will be held on January 4, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Church of St. Teresa 510 Kampong Bahru Rd. Intention Mass in honor of Angela Cheng.
