Angela's obituary
Angela Lynne Minton (Kizer)
June 21, 1947-March 2, 2023
Angela passed away unexpectedly yet peacefully at her home in Boulder, Colorado on March 2, 2023. Known as “Angel” to her family and friends, she also answered to “Angie and Ange, Mom and Mimi” throughout her 75 years of life. She was born at St. Anthony Hospital in Oklahoma City to Roma Frances King and Carl William Kizer. She graduated from Mount St. Mary High School in 1965 and attended Central State University earning a Bachelor’s degree and two Master’s degrees in English and Creative Writing. She was a voracious reader and lover of books, literature, history with a special love for anything and everything about Abraham Lincoln. Angel was passionate about civil rights, supporting women, children, minorities, and all groups fighting for equality and fairness politically. She was an extremely accomplished writer, artist and all-around creative force. She had a smart sense of humor, impressive vocabulary and easy conversational style which made her an interesting, treasured discussion leader and information resource. Among her varied and interesting career paths she enjoyed working with students, tutoring and helping college bound students write their entrance exam applications, essays and resumes. She could talk about so many subjects with deep understanding and insight. She loved classic movies, British films, history, true crime, mystery and shows, and was a self-proclaimed Anglophile. She was disappointed on a trip to London when she had great difficulty ordering a glass of her beloved “iced” tea.
Our Angel loved spending time with her family, but she also loved spending time alone with her books and her art projects. For Valentine’s Day this year she mailed a homemade, hand-painted Valentine card to her family members, and it is one they will treasure forever. She was an active “texter” on many family threads sharing views about politics, movies and true crime.
Angela was pre-deceased by her parents, grandparents and recently her beloved brother, Dennis King Kizer. T. A. Minton, her husband/co-parent/companion for 30+ years, and granddaughter Merry Orion Muir also predeceased her. She is survived by her children Josh Herrington (Nicole), Broomfield, CO; Sarah Minton Sieman (Mike), Broomfield, CO; Noah Minton (Dani), Edmond, OK; Pepper Minton Muir, Bakersfield, CA; Zach Minton (Jen) of Boston, MA, and ex-husband, Richard Herrington, Oklahoma City. She had 6 ½ grandchildren, Branford Minton, Jagger Herrington, Jaxson Herrington, Maverick Muir, Sage Minton, Lola Minton and Emilia Minton (on the way) due on her birthday. She leaves behind her loving siblings, Carl William “Bill” Kizer, Jr, Oklahoma City; Melissa “Missy” Hoehn (Bill), Oklahoma City; Charlene Craig, Olivebridge, NY; maternal Aunt, M. A. Hannifan, Plano, TX, and her nephews and nieces Jeff Kizer, Woodstock, NY; Amy Harlow (Jeremy), Woodstock, NY; Hunter Hoehn (Elizabeth), Oklahoma City; Simone Koehn (Aaron), Cleveland, OH; and Betsy Colton (Graham), Oklahoma City. She had many great-nieces, nephews and cousins with whom she was very close and loved dearly. She would also want tribute made to her beloved grand-dogs Chloe Sieman and Arlo Herrington, both of Broomfield, CO. She will be remembered, loved and missed by her large and amazing family, but they take comfort knowing she is their eternal Guardian “Angel.”
A Celebration of Angel’s life will be held on Saturday, March 25, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at the Paseo Arts Creativity Center located at 3024 Paseo, Oklahoma City, OK 73103. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the organization of your choice or to your local library.
