Angel's obituary
Angel “Angelo” Luis Santiago, 69, residing in the Dominican Republic, passed away leaving behind a legacy of dedication, creativity, and love for learning.
Angelo proudly served 20 years in the United States Air Force, where he not only devoted himself to his country but also pursued his passion for boxing. His discipline, strength, and determination defined both his military service and his life beyond it.
Following his time in the Air Force, Angelo built a long career with the Daily News Newspaper, where he worked for two decades. His love for the written word eventually led him to start his own publishing company. Even in retirement, Angelo remained committed to preserving the craft he cherished, teaching “old-style” letterpress printing so that traditional bookmaking would not be forgotten.
A lifelong reader, Angelo found joy and adventure in books. He visited the library every day, often saying that his library card was his “ticket to see the world.” His curiosity and appreciation for knowledge were unmatched.
Outside of his work, Angelo enjoyed life’s simple pleasures. He loved boxing, classic black-and-white television shows and films—especially those featuring Abbott & Costello—and spending time exploring museums, zoos, and beaches. These moments reflected his appreciation for history, humor, and the beauty of the world around him.
Angelo is survived by his beloved wife, Leonor Ponce de Santiago; his children, Geraldine, Jacqueline, Michael, and Caroline; and his in-law, Reuben. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, a loving father, and a man whose passion for learning and preserving tradition touched everyone who knew him.
His legacy lives on through the knowledge he shared, the family he loved, and the countless stories he read and helped bring into the world.
