Angel's obituary

Angel Luis Martinez, Jr., age 51, of Santa Clarita, California, passed away unexpectedly on April 21, 2023. His family is deeply saddened by his sudden death.

Angel was born on July 8, 1971, to Luz O’Neil and Angel L. Martinez, Sr. in Melrose, Massachusetts. After moving to Castaic, California in 1983, Angel went on to achieve many accomplishments, awards, and records in both football and track and field in high school and in college. Angel later obtained his teaching credentials and began teaching Special Education at the William S. Hart School District and coaching football at his high school alma mater, Saugus High School.  

In 1997, Angel met Julie Froeberg, and they were married in 1998. Angel and Julie went on to have three daughters. In 2004, Angel joined the United States Army and was medically retired in 2006. Angel always had an incredible respect and love for this country and the people who keep it safe.  He spent his free time attending his daughters’ many cheerleading events.

Angel is survived by his wife, Julie Martinez, daughters, Jordan, Payton, and Mia Martinez, and grandson, Westley.  Angel is also survived by his mother, Luz O’Neil (husband Brian O’Neil), brother, Orlando Martinez, and sister, Evelyn Martinez.

Rosary services will be held on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, from 4:00-7:00 pm at Cabot and Sons Funeral Home, located at 27 Chestnut Street, Pasadena CA 91103. Funeral services will be held the following day on Wednesday, May 24, 2023, 10:30 am, at Saint Andrew Catholic Church at 311 N. Raymond Avenue, Pasadena CA 91103.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to any Veterans organization, such as the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
