Andrew's obituary

Andrew William Russo (76) of Shelby County, Alabama, passed away in his home on Monday, February 3rd, 2020.Andrew was born in Birmingham, Alabama, on 12/4/1943 to Evelynne Edna (Williams) Russo and Frank Joseph Russo. He was the eldest of 5 children. He survived the polio virus at age 7 and chose to live his life without limitations. He attended Shades Valley High School. He majored in mathematics and physics at Samford University and completed a Masters Degree in computer science at The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB).

Andrew worked as researcher, teacher, systems analyst, and software developer at UAB, Southern Company, Bellsouth, and Accenture. He enjoyed flying airplanes, kayaking, fly-fishing, and backpacking in the Pacific Northwest. He wed the love of his life, Anne Gilbert Russo, and remained faithful for their entire 47 years of marriage. He maintained a lifelong friendship with Jim Cobb, who inspired him achieve his goals. His family and his sons were considered the treasures of his life. Andrew was a member of Canterbury United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife and his two sons - Frank David Russo and Michael Edmund Russo - two daughters-in-law - Rachel (Smith) Russo and Erin (Gilmore) Russo - four grandchildren - Alexander, Rebecca, Victoria, and Kalila - as well as his four siblings - Susan Nichols, Larry (Nataliya) Russo, Fay (Gary) Asher, and Frankie Russo. He is predeceased by his parents.

As requested by Andrew, in lieu of memorial services, the family will gather privately in his remembrance. The family would also like to thank Comfort Care Hospice for their compassionate care. If desired, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Park Foundation.
