Andrew's obituary
It is with deep sorrow that we mourn the passing of Andrew Maclaren, age 59 years, from cancer on Saturday, December 10th, at the Ruddy-Shenkman Hospice in Kanata, Ontario.
Andrew was supported and loved through his illness, as he was throughout much of his life by his beloved wife, Mireille (Mimi) Benge. He was predeceased by his parents Frederick and Nancy Maclaren. Andrew is survived by his siblings Virginia, Leith (John Walter), Fergus (Wendy Duffy), and Ross (Colleen Woodcock). He will also be missed by his niece and nephews Christopher and Jeffrey Walter, Margot and Henry Maclaren, and Colin Quinn Maclaren, and by his mother-in-law Albertine Benge and in-laws Maryse and Elliott Benge.
Andrew was born in Ottawa where he attended Ashbury College and then Algonquin College. He had an early career in journalism, with one highlight being accredited as a reporter at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul. He then shifted to IT where he had a long career as a consultant working in Canada and Europe specializing in business intelligence, big data and virtual fitness software. In his leisure time, apart from enjoying many sports and playing the piano, Andrew was kept busy with a job he and Mimi adored - looking after their dogs: first Tess and Champ, then Hud and finally Teddy.
Andrew embraced Vancouver Island, where he lived for the last few years, prior to returning to the Ottawa area, helping Mimi develop her fitness studio and building his fitness software company. As per his wishes, a celebration of life will be held in April 2023 near Tofino, where his ashes will be spread off the coast. In remembrance of Andrew, you are welcome to donate to the SPCA or BCSPCA in his name.
