Andy's obituary
It is with a heavy heart that we share that our beloved husband, father, and grandfather Andres Sanchez Jr. has passed away on Tuesday, Feb 13, 2024, at 3:43 pm in Orlando, FL. He was 73 years old, having celebrated his last birthday a few weeks prior.
His long-standing battle with diabetes lead to health complications and being hospitalized on Monday, January 15, 2024. While in the hospital he contracted COVID, leading to a cardiac arrest on Saturday, February 10, 2024. After three days of being non-responsive on a ventilator, he was removed from life support and died within the hour in the presence of his beloved wife Patty and his youngest daughter, Diana.
Andy was born on January 21, 1951, to Andres Reyes Sanchez and Arabel Josephine Hoak in El Paso, Texas. He graduated from Irvin High School in 1969, and joined the Navy during the Vietnam War; serving two years, before attending the University of Texas at El Paso for two years. In 1976, Andy moved to Portland, Oregon where he began working at Pacific Fireplace Furnishings where he met his future wife Patty and his would-be stepson Patrick. They married in January 1979 and went on to have two beautiful daughters: Sarah and Diana. In December of 1978, he began working at Bonneville Power Administration as a computer and programming specialist, initiating 34 years of service. He retired on September 30, 2009.
In his spare time, Andy became the first Scout Leader of troop 777 in Portland, OR. He also enjoyed several hobbies including wood carving, traditional Native beading, collecting vintage objects, and building things in his workshop. He is remembered for his playful nature, work ethic and dedication to fixing things around the house.
Andy also spent his life dedicated to his belief in God and Christianity. Despite longstanding struggles with his health, he continued to be a fighter, a believer, and a shining light in this world who reached out to his friends and loved ones with daily “Good Morning” messages, as well as thoughtful holiday wishes and greetings. His passion for his indigenous heritage, the Texan desert, Panamanian culture, classic cars, vintage objects, exotic flowers, and birds – especially the Bald Eagle – were some of his many unique traits.
Andy is survived by his wife Patty, his oldest son Patrick, his oldest daughter Sarah and her family Steve, David, Isaac and Annie; his youngest daughter Diana and her family Robert, Desmond, Arianna and Remy; as well as his younger two sisters Josephine and Lucy and youngest brother Julio.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Andy’s name to the Disabled American Veterans, a charity that Andy felt strongly about.
Thank you for your love, support, and prayers,
Patty, Patrick, Sarah and Diana
