Andres's obituary
Andrés Alfredo Cerritos, 73, passed away unexpectedly on November 25, 2025. He resided in Round Lake Beach, Illinois. He was also affectionately known as Alfredo by his spouse and siblings.
Andres was born on November 30, 1951, in El Salvador to Ciriaca Cerritos and Carlos Vega. He obtained a B.A. in Education at the Escuela Normal, La Libertad, El Salvador.
Andres married Alma Nuria Alvarenga on June 2, 1979, in Santa Ana, El Salvador. They resided in Round Lake Beach, Illinois for 40 years together.
Andres is survived by his spouse and four children: Andrés Alfredo Cerritos Jr. (45), Eva Cerritos Greene (40), Miguel Ángel Cerritos (32), José Alfredo Torres-Reyes (47).
Andres cherished his three grandchildren: Lucy Alejandra Cerritos (12), Luca Andrés Cerritos (7), and Gianna Maria Greene (5). And he loved his daughter-in-law, Vanessa Guridy, and son-in-law, John Greene.
In 1992, Andres established his own insurance agency in Waukegan, which he successfully operated for nearly three decades. Through hard work and integrity, he developed a loyal clientele that remained with him throughout his career.
Andres prioritized awareness of life. Each morning, he walked a tree-lined path in a nearby savannah to watch the sunrise–often joined by his beloved wife, Alma. He met with his children often for lunch, reminding them to enjoy and appreciate the present moment. And he remained in constant touch with beloved sisters, Carmen and Irma, and memorialized his older brothers, Juan and Benjamin. A teacher at heart and by training, he especially cherished time with his grandchildren, whose energy, natural presence, and spirit of play mirrored the way he aspired to live.
Andres was an active and longstanding member of the Gurdjieff Foundation of Illinois. There, he joined others in the work of self-knowledge through group readings, meditations, discussions, and movement. Gurdjieff’s teachings emphasize awakening from automatic, habitual living and becoming more conscious, present, and whole. This approach resonated deeply with Andres, providing a refuge for his innate curiosity and search to understand the meaning of his life.
