Andrea "Toya" Montero, 95, of Howell, NJ, passed away on March 17, 2023 after an arduous battle with Alzheimer's Disease.  

Andrea was born on February 4, 1928 to Agustin Montero Acosta and Monserrate "Ramona" Plaza de Montero  in Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico. She was child number 6 of 12 siblings.  In 1947, after he returned to Cabo Rojo from WWII, she married Martin Camacho Torres.  They had three children Hamilton, Iris and Gerineldo before relocating to New York in 1951.  Years later, in 1977 they returned to Puerto Rico where Martin owned and operated a local grocery store in Las Palmas.  Andrea was a devoted lover of animals, particularly concerned over the welfare of dogs and cats.  

She is predeceased by her parents, and siblings Ramona, Aurea, Andres, Samuel, Juan, Luis, Norma, her son Gerineldo and step-daughter Myra. 

Andrea is survived by her siblings Gloria, Zaida, Beatriz, and Josefa, her children Hamilton (and his wife Frances, Saint Cloud, Florida), Iris (and her husband Joseph, Howell, NJ), step children Eileen (Holiday, Florida), Annette (Westfield, Massachusetts), Carmen (San Juan, Puerto Rico), Frank (and his wife Sandra, Townsend, Massachusetts), her grandchildren Jerry (and his wife Angela), Melissa (and her husband Carlos), Tamika (and her husband Amadi), Andrea (and her husband Jim), Melinda (and her husband Greg), and Justin, her great-grand children Tiana (and her husband John Paul), Marc, Nicholas, Kyle, Eva, Aaliyah, Isabella, Sofia, Lucas, Isaiah, Logan, Chase, Alyssa and her great-great-grand children Nevaeh and Reign as well as many step-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. She was the matriarch of the family and a devoted and nurturing wife, mother, step-mother, grandmother, and friend. Her caring and generous nature will be greatly missed, but her gentle spirit remains with us in the hearts of those who knew her. As we say goodbye to Andrea "Toya" Montero, we remember a life filled with love, acts of service, and a deep connection to her family, faith, and hobbies. May she rest in peace, knowing that her memory will live on in the hearts of those she touched throughout her remarkable life.

Please join us for a funeral mass on Tuesday, March 28th at 9:30 am at St. Veronica's Church 4219 US-9, Howell Township, NJ 07731.  Andrea will be laid to rest at Cementerio Puerto Real, PR- 308 Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico on 4/1.
