ANDREA's obituary

Andrea Wittig Jean-Baptiste, 95, of Ranquitte Haiti, passed on March 13, 2021. Andrea was born on June 04, 1925, a palindrome date that won’t happen again for over 100 years. An iconic day for an iconic woman. Born on a Thursday in June 1925 and completing her life on a Saturday in 2021, she got to witness many world events. The rise and fall of world empires, 2 global pandemics, 30 full-term sitting Haitian leaders, and 17 American presidents. A feat not many will have the privilege of accomplishing. The eldest daughter of the late Eleus Oscar and Udovia Polynice and sister to Ilezia Oscar Saint-Jean, and the late Dorceus Oscar, Margerite Cadeus, and Cleante Cadeus. Andrea is widely known as Didi, a name given to her by her firstborn at a young age. She grew up to be a skilled gardener. Married at 18 years old to the late Julien Jean-Baptiste in Petionville, Haiti. Didi grew up learning how to farm. That farming skill helped her raise her 6 children by herself after the sudden kidnapping of her husband in 1968. She moved to the U.S. in 1995 and later became a citizen of the United States. She is a longtime resident of Brockton, Massachusetts.
Didi loved dressing up for church on the weekends and enjoying life with her family. She shared her love for family and love for cooking down to generations and generations. Many of her memories were in the kitchen with her grandchildren. Before her dementia, she enjoyed walking with her daughter in the morning, mastering the StairMaster, listening to Haitian folklore music, dancing with her family, participating in Shark Week, watching Wrestling, Boxing, and the Price is Right with Bob Barker. A pillar of hospitality and a force to be reckoned with, Didi overcame many trials and beat many odds that surprised the most experts of doctors throughout the latter years of her life. She received the name The Iron Lady.
She is survived by her four children, Anel Jean-Baptiste, Willy Jean-Baptiste, Yvon Jean-Baptiste, Lola Jean Baptiste Blain, and her stepdaughter Giselle Jean-Baptiste. She is predeceased by her sons Clebert Jean-Baptiste and Rolly S. Jean-Baptiste. Additionally, she is survived by her 19 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and countless nieces, nephews, and cousins.
