Andre's obituary
It is with great regret and sorrow that Andre Merghart has passed away at the age of 73. The son of Jan Merghart and Eve Van Der Muelen he had 5 siblings, Errol, Robin, Rene, Lorraine, and Jennifer. He leaves behind his one and only son, Julian Merghart. A dedicated father and accomplished musician and singer songwriter, Andre had a passion for classic cars and rock and roll music.
He graduated from Wayland High School in 1967 and stayed in Massachusetts until 2006 when he finally got tired of the snow and sleet and left for sunny climate of Dallas, Texas. He resided in Dallas for 13 years and enjoyed driving his Jaguar XJ8 Vanden Plas around Oak Cliff and spent quite a few hours cleaning up around Stevie Ray Vaughan’s grave and exploring the DFW Metroplex.
Among his favorite cars from his collecting passion of over 50 years were his 1959 Austin-Healey 3000, his 1963 Porsche 356B, his 1969 Plymouth Roadrunner 383 4-Speed, his 1955 Cadillac Eldorado Series 62 Convertible and his fleet of classic Lincoln Limousines and his cherished 240D, 450SE and 300SD Mercedes-Benz daily drivers.
His favorite band by far was The Beatles, and he was a great admirer of Ricky Nelson, George Harrison and Roy Orbison. He instilled a sense of light hearted dignity in everything he did, and raised his son to be serious about car collecting, friendships, and business.
He had a unique style of dressing and a sharp eye for fashion and had an almost uncanny ability to assess which cars and houses would become valuable in the future… he had the gift of future value perception. No stranger to hardship, he was always the kind of person to smile in the face of adversity no matter how stacked the odds may have been against him. Brutally honest and straightforward, Andre was the first person to tell you the truth about someone and the last person you would want as an enemy.
He lived out the final years of his life drinking early morning coffee, eating steak and shrimp, smoking a cigarette before bedtime, and relaxing on the back porch on Lake Tawakoni. He enjoyed basking in the sunshine and tending to the yard with his favorite tool – his rake.
He will be missed by all that knew him.
Special Note: He recorded one song called "What Has She Done To Me" - it's available on YouTube and Spotify and all major music streaming platforms. He was very proud of that recording and would have enjoyed knowing that people are still listening to it. Please just search his name on any of those platforms.
